What could you put in it?
Start with one wall of boxes or a shallow shelf. Put the item you use most near the entrance. A large piece can take up most of this floor, even when it does not look big.
A bedroom or apartment label is only a starting list. Two households can have very different furniture and box counts. Use your own things to decide.

How to read these drawings

- A walkway about 30 inches wide runs from the door to the back wall.
- The holiday bins and the bike sit beside the walkway nearest the door. The rest goes toward the back.
- Everything sits on the floor. Stacking, shelves and tipping are not drawn.
- Sizes are the size on the label (width times depth). A real unit’s inside size, door and ceiling height can be different, so check them with the location.
Check the shape, not just the volume.
Measure your biggest piece against both five-foot sides. Setting it in at an angle still needs room to carry it through the real door and turn it inside.
Measure width, depth and height the way the piece will sit in storage. Add room for padding, handles and parts that do not come off. Check that an item can be tipped or stacked before you plan it that way.
Make the space useful after move-in.
A 30-inch-wide straight path would use half of the five-foot width. Sketch how you will reach the back before filling the floor.
Add paths and shelves in the planner, then name your boxes and list what is inside. Compare a packed-tight layout with one you can walk into.

A 5 × 10 doubles the floor area while keeping the same narrow width. Compare it if you need a longer row of boxes or a separate place for furniture.
