KNOW THE SPACE. PLAN YOUR WAY.

The 5 × 5 storage size.

A compact square footprint for comparing a small collection of boxes, seasonal belongings or a few individual pieces.

25 square feet of floor space

5 feet wide × 5 feet deep = 25 square feet. Height is a separate measurement. The model starts with an editable height; the actual unit, door and usable clearances need a facility check.

What could you put in it?

Start with one wall of boxes or a shallow shelf. Put the item you use most near the entrance. A large piece can consume most of this footprint, even when its volume seems small.

A bedroom or apartment label is only a starting list. Two households can have very different furniture and box counts. Use your actual collection to decide.

01 / THE BIG PIECES FIRST

Check the shape, not just the volume.

Measure your largest rigid item against both five-foot sides. A diagonal placement still needs room to carry the item through the actual door and turn it inside.

Measure width, depth and height with the furniture in the position you can safely store it. Allow for padding, handles and parts that cannot be removed. Confirm whether an item may be tipped or stacked before using that arrangement.

02 / ROOM TO REACH IT

Make the space useful after move-in.

A 30-inch-wide straight path would use half of the five-foot width. Sketch how you will reach the back before filling the floor.

Use access paths and shelves in the planner, then name boxes and record their contents. Compare both a packed layout and the layout you would want to visit.

03 / CHECK THE NEIGHBORING SIZE

Would a different footprint help?

A 5 × 10 doubles the floor area while keeping the same narrow width. Compare it if you need a longer row of boxes or a separate place for furniture.

Questions about a 5 × 5 space

How big is a 5 × 5 storage unit?

The nominal footprint is 5 feet wide by 5 feet deep, or 25 square feet of floor area. Usable interior dimensions, ceiling height and the door opening can differ from the size label. Confirm those measurements with the facility.

Will my belongings fit in a 5 × 5?

Make a list, measure the largest pieces and test their arrangement with boxes, shelves and an access path. Total volume alone cannot establish fit. The planner gives an estimate to check against the real unit and doorway.

How much does a 5 × 5 cost, and is one available?

This guide compares a generic footprint and does not list an available unit or a price. Use Find a space to tell the team your needs and move-in date. They confirm the actual unit, current price, access and next steps.
