The length in a listing is usually just the body. Add the hitch, the ladder, the mirrors and the roof equipment, then ask about the way in, which has its own measurements.

Your measuring checklist

Body length. Measure the structure from front to back. This is often the number in a listing, so treat it as the start, not the answer.

Add the front and the back. A hitch or tongue at the front. A ladder, bumper, rack or spare at the rear. Measure to the furthest point.

Add the sides. Awning cases, mirrors and steps, in the position you store them.

Measure the tallest point. Roof air conditioner, vents, antennas and racks. Put anything that folds down where it sits in storage.

Write down how you measured. The date, who measured and what they used. The plan keeps this with your numbers.

Ask about the way in, separately. Door or gate width and height, and the driving route to the space: turns, slope and anything overhead. The location confirms these.
